…..A fantastic week here at Mendham Mill. It helped that the weather was perfect, but even without that, the house is great, the surroundings paradise, the hosts friendly and helpful. We went to Southwold (Pier), Loewstoft (South Beach is great), Great Yarmouth (NT and EH houses), Somerleyton Hall (great) Norwich……and, oh yes, we stayed at Home too which is THE BEST! (Miller’s House – July 2014)

Quite a magical week spent relaxing in such beautiful surroundings. The weather was almost perfect and we enjoyed our outdoor drinks and meals admiring the mill, the trees and the meadows. A lot of wild life with the odd glimpse of a woodpecker….Finally a special word of thanks to James and Nick for their warm welcome and their attention to detail plus a lot of information about all sorts of things. (Miller’s House July 2014)

What a fabulous house! A warm welcome to start a very enjoyable weekend. Breakfast on the terrace, sunbathing by the mill race, what else could you want. A beautiful part of the countryside. We spent a very enjoyable evening at The Dove – enhanced by the generous offer of a lift there from our hosts – thankyou! We will definitely come back and recommend it to our friends and family. (The Miller’s House – May 2014)

Such an enchanting holiday in our secret walled garden at The Lodge! Our cottage really had everything we needed. Also recommend the fish van that visits Mendham Mill every Tuesday morning – our sea bass and salmon was fresh and delicious. If you don’t feel like cooking, the local pub (Sir Alfred Munnings) served us large sized portion of fish and chips which was good. Mendham Mill has been a wonderful holiday for us. Should you have the time and the energy, drifting down the river using the boat provided by the Mill is so peaceful and lovely. A huge thank you to Nick and James – both superior hosts! Made us feel so welcome and were great to chat to. (The Lodge – April 2014)

We have really enjoyed our short but very relaxing stay at Mendham Mill. What a beautiful place, so picturesque and green! Our walks to the pub in the village were followed by lovely meals and lovely people with lovely welcoming smiles. You have a beautiful home and make your guests extremely welcome. Mendham Mill is definitely on our ‘to visit again soon’ list. (Mill Race Cottage April 2014)

We are a British Sri Lankan family who love traveling. We have been to many places in  the UK and Europe too. So far, this is the best place ever, very beautiful, attractive and relaxing. We had a brilliant time, thank you so much. (Miller’s House April 2014)

Thank you James and Nick for your warm welcome and friendliness to us during our week in this lovely place. It has been the perfect base for a family holiday. We have enjoyed viewing the wildlife outside our windows. Lunch beside the river and our canoeing expeditions will remain as magical memories. (Miller’s House April 2014)

Such tranquility! Whole family enjoyed the canoeing. Spotted kingfishers and an otter. (The Lodge – February 2014)

The most relaxing weekend. We adored the cottage and the scenery – mostly water by charming [the water meadows were flooded]. Lunch in Norwich was fabulous and The Fox and Goose serves high quality food. Thank you for the warm welcome and delightful weekend. (Mill Race Cottage February 2014)

The Mill and gardens were a perfect setting for a family celebration. Lovely Rooms. Nick and James made us feel very welcome. Lots of interest around the Mill with canoeing, fishing and dog walks around the area. Altogether a wonderful family time and I would certainly recommend it (Miller’s House February 2014)

A lovely peaceful relaxing cottage. Beautiful and warm despite the wet and windy weather. We managed a couple of walks, a lovely coastal walk at Walberswick and then a walk from Mendham with a well-earned good pint and chips at the Black Swan at Homersfield. James and Nick were very welcoming. We have never visited this area before and find it fascinating and welcoming. We hope to come back in the summer to enjoy the fabulous grounds and to get out on the canoes. Keep up the good work and the lovely peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. (Mill Race Cottage New Year 2014)

Our first non-family Christmas and a lovely success – thanks to the lovely welcoming Mill Race Cottage, James and Nick. A more peaceful, tranquil and relaxing setting we couldn’t have found. Our third ‘Premier Cottage’ this year and very much our favourite. (Mill Race Cottage December 2013)

Our first visit to Mendham Mill and we immediately were made welcome by James and Nick. Ivan was in Seventh Heaven with fishing literally on the door-step. We spent most of our 2 weeks locally. Harleston is a very friendly town: Rich Pickings very good for coffee and their homemade bread is very good. Best sausages from D A Browne. Paul’s fresh fish very good. Enjoyed lunch at Sir Alfred Munnings. Barmaid / waitress very friendly. Thank you James and Nick for all the treats and for such a lovely place. (The Nest September 2013)

Our third visit to ‘The Nest’. Thank you for having us again and lovely to see that it hasn’t changed – still great views and lovely peace and quiet. Don’t change! I don’t want to go and hope you will have us back again. (The Nest September 2013)

You feel as if you have known Mendham Mill all your life – so evocative of childhood stories – ‘Wind in the Willows’, ‘The Secret Garden’ etc.. Our grandchildren, staying in The [Miller’s] House with their parents will, we know, remember this holiday for its simple pleasures; fishing for tiddlers, canoeing on a delightful river, plauying games of hide-and-seek, cricket and treasure hunts in the extensive grounds. We have enjoyed lovely walks along The Angles Way and cycle rides. Mill Race Cottage is, without doubt, an exceptional living area. The interior is a delight to the eye and the provisions are first class. Nick and James are wonderful hosts, charming and so helpful. We know that they have made our family’s stay a great pleasure. We have no doubt that we will return. (P&J, Mill Race & The Miller’s House August 2013)

It is hard to find words to do justice to the wonderful week we have spent here in ‘The Nest’. So many wonderful and unique memories to take with us back to Lancashire. The location is entrancing and the accommodation very comfortable and relaxing……Thank you, Nick and James, for being so thoughtful, helpful and informative. Staying here has been truly special. And to be able to enjoy such a fine piano each day was the icing on the cake! (A&P August 2013)

A thoroughly enjoyable week, celebrating a 40th birthday. The boats went down a storm (not literally!) and were taken out almost every day. Wildlife spied: barn owls, kingfishers, swans, bunny rabbits, cygnets ducks and ducklings. Thankyou to James and Nick for always being cheery and helpful and for the excellent canoe instruction. A perfect week was had by all three generations. (L&L and family August 2013)

Many thanks for a wonderful stay. The place is heaven. (MO’N&VO’s July 2013)

What can we say that hasn’t already been said? We’ve had another great week here – this little idyllic island. As always, our hosts, Nick and James have been terrific! Local knowledge, snippets of information and tireless is amusing our collie dog, Penny – throwing the ball into the water for her. We’ll be back again! (D&IW July 2013)

Hats off to Nick and James at Mendham Mill. You have created something very special here and it is a delight to spend a few days in The Lodge. Well-provisioned, very comfortable, friendly hosts – and all in a magical location – what’s not to like? Mendham Mill will go onto our places to revisit list, and we’re a bit picky so it’s not a long list! (RD April 2013)

We have had a fantastic time here. This is easily the best equipped and most comfy places we have stayed in. The surroundings are gorgeous and local walks enjoyable (despite very cold weather!). Lots of places to visit: exercise, relaxation and culture – and what a lovely piano [in the Nest]. (J&JM April 2013)

Well it’s all been said many times over and it’s all true! Location and accommodation splendid but best of all has been the welcome and friendliness of our hosts Nick and James (V&PS September 2012)

What a fantastic place to spend a week’s holiday, relaxing, peaceful, great for our two Boxer dogs. Nick and James are great hosts, very thoughtful with all the little extras, nothing was too much trouble for them. Don’t really want to go home but we will be back. (G&M V September 2012)

What a wonder find! Everything we could ever need in the kitchen – the fruit, chocolates and coffee etc were a wonderful bonus.  A wonderful retreat that dissoves the stress of daily life – ‘old world’ charms with modern conveniences all in a picture perfect setting (LG July 2012)

Another fabulous week in this idyllic setting. A kingfisher spotted on a couple of occasions and then, lo and behold, an otter! (D&IW July 2012)

An excellent holiday in a most comfortable tranquil location. Beautifully equipped accommodation that satisfies every need. We were so well received by Nick and James who provided some excellent touches to create a home from home. (D&D June 2012)

We have enjoyed every moment of our stay at Mendham Mill – from the welcome on arrival and the ‘treats’ provided to the stunning beauty of the whole site; huge chub living under the bridge and visible every day, lovely fish from the van on Tuesday and many “comfy” resting places on the lawns and in the grounds. Highlight of our stay have been “the deck” [the Nest terrace] for evenings meals; the rowing boat for a delightful trip down-river; watercress from the Mill race for home-made soup and of course the splendid fishing. (M&PT June 2012)

The Mill is gorgeous. The grand piano is a beauty. The river is a magical pleasure. But the best is meeting you both. Thank you for your kindness and making us feel so welcomed. (D & CP Dec 2011)

Wow! Easily the loveliest cottage have have found which allows dogs to stay too (and we have been to loads over the last 15 years). ….Thank you Nick and James for providing a perfect spot for holidays with dogs. You are brilliant at what you do! (L&J N Sept 2011)

What a wonderful place you have here, thank you so much for letting people share it with you…..we fell in love with the place and will be back next summer with our family and can’t wait. (E&T C Sept 2011)

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? ….and WOW, what a find! The Miller’s House is wonderful. Lots of space and amazingly equipped, even an apron! It has been a delight to wake up each morning, pull up the blind and look at the river. The children have not missed the dreaded X-box and have had quite and adventure on the river in canoes. What has made the visit though has been the friendliness of Nick and James….nothing was too much trouble. Thank you both for a wonderful week. (A&HP August 2011)

What can we say?…….ditto, ditto, ditto, to all the superlatives written before and heartfelt thanks to Nick and James for sharing their piece of paradise so generously – the only downside is that a week at Mendham has been far too short and we will definitely stay for longer next time!! (D&JA July 2011)

Never before have we been on a holiday and been so reluctant to move away from ‘The Nest’. Everything we needed for the perfect, relaxing and enjoyable time was here. Thanks to Nick and James for such a friendly welcome. It’s entirely their ‘fault’ that we’ll certainly return. (K&MS June 2011)

‘Perfect’ could sum up this short message – to enlarge – perfect place to relax, perfect surroundings, perfect hosts. Our second visit proves this to be so. Also the local pub [The Sir Alfred Munnings] now refurbished is possibly the best food and service of any pub we have experienced anywhere – and only a short walk! Thank you James & Nick for another wonderful week, it felt like coming home. (P&VS June 2011).

Loved coming back to the Mill which was, once again, wonderful. Gardens and cottages looking beautiful and a warm welcome from Nick and James. We will be back again! (J&J T April 2011)

Every view from every window is inspiring and so restful. The Nest is superbly equipped and the piano – worth coming for that alone! (L&N J April 2011)

Such tranquil perfection. What a shame we have to leave! Our stay has been a memorable one, your company delightful and our surroundings so comfortable with beauty at every turn. You have thought of everything to make your guests feel at home and at ease…..a magical place. (J&H N April 2011)

We will long treasure the serenity and the wonderful memory of staying at Mendham Mill. James and Nick are wonderful hosts. Canoeing and croquet were highlights with our teenage family. Thankyou. We’ll return. (C&J B April 2011)

Our second visit, and enjoyed so much, as expected. We look forward to our next visit – already booked. (I&A W October 2010)

The word ‘Paradise’ appears several times in this book – and with good reason. Besides the lovely accommodation this area is full of charming villages, many with decent pubs and great food. Nick and James have done a great job here. Thankyou. (J+P, T&R July 2010)

What a wonderful, relaxing place. Never been anywhere more beautiful. Accommodation first class. Nick and James are wonderful hosts and could not have been more helpful. (T&P, C&M July 2010)

Back, as promised! Still as fantastic as we remember. Through the gates and instant relaxation. Nick and James, as ever, have gone the extra mile to make our stay so enjoyable….. we’ll be back. (M&K W & family July 2010)

We are not telling anyone about this wonderful secret haven because it is a unique, magical place that is a precious commodity! The wildlife is amazing – otters, owls, a full range of birdlife, and the herd of cows opposite the river have been entertaining. As I sit here writing, the tree creepers are hopping up the tree. We hope to return next year. (D & M L June 2010)

Our second holiday in Mill Race Cottage and another ‘cracker’! This place is the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of a frenzied modern-day lifestyle….we have paddled the canoe up and down, enjoyed the beautiful grounds and gardens and taken endless photos. What a delight. We’ll be back. (J & M H June 2010)

What a find. Most holiday accommodation is portrayed with great media shots and fantastic promises. Mendham Mill is understated, it truly is a jewel in the crown. The accommodation is great, clean and spotless and very well decorated….without doubt this has been one of the best holidays we have spent in the UK. (R & I B May 2010)

You gave us an unforgetable experience in a magical place. Mendham Mill is like Narnia, simply another world. S & C R (April 2010)

Perfect, just perfect. D & L H (February 2010)

Who can ask for more? Fantastic accommodation, fantastic location and fantastic hosts! Nick and James you really have created a little piece of paradise. We’ll see you again. MW (August 2009)

We have spent two weeks here and have loved every minute of our stay – from the warm welcome from James and Nick to the sheer beauty of the place. Every window you look out from and every corner you turn has something of beauty and difference about it. J H (July 2009)

Enjoy this place – it’s a gem! M H (May 2009)
